CHS Students Meet with Senators and Representatives in Week-Long DC Trip
Temperatures soared over a hundred degrees as eight rising seniors embarked on a week-long trip to Washington, D.C. Accompanied by two of their teachers, including Sarah Houle, coordinator of the Merit Scholars Program, the students traveled by train to the nation’s capital.
During their stay, the Panthers met other students from across the country, saw national monuments, debated current legislation, and heard speakers discuss current events. By far the highlight of the trip was a day on Capitol Hill. The students met with Senator Scott Brown, Representative Michael Capuano, and a member of Senator John Kerry's staff.
They were able to ask the government officials questions that were relevant to their lives - including the pending student loan interest rate increase and the looming MBTA fare hikes.
Despite the scorching weather, the scholars also found the energy to tour the campus of Georgetown University. Many of these same students spent their February and April breaks with Mrs. Houle touring college campuses throughout New England.
Finally, the group took advantage of their week in the beautiful city by visiting several museums and landmarks. They returned to Boston ready to begin summer vacation and armed with more knowledge to help in their college decisions.
