Old Testament
The purpose of this course is to present a contemporary overview of the major ideas and developments of the people of the Hebrew Scriptures. It is a story of a people who had a deeply held belief in a personal God who was ever faithful even when they were not.

COMPETENCY GOAL 1: Students will understand the Old Testament as a library of books. Objectives:
- Students will be able to identify the different parts of the Old Testament and the significance of the Old Testament in history.
COMPETENCY GOAL 2: Students will appreciate that the Scriptures come from a particular people at a particular time. Objectives:
- Students will understand the difference between a fundamentalist interpretation of the Scriptures and the Historical Critical method of interpretation.
- Students will see the cultural and historical context of the Scriptures.
- Students will understand the concept of myth and the various literary forms which Scripture authors employed.
COMPETENCY GOAL 3: Students will see God's work as reflected in history and in the lives of Biblical characters. Objectives:
- Students will be able to identify the major Biblical characters and events.
COMPETENCY GOAL 4: Students will be able to reflect upon God's presence in their own lives. Objectives:
- Students will be able to write about, and complete projects about God’s role in their lives.
