Art Department

The Art Department believes that all persons can gain satisfaction from the study of art; that in the study of art, one can find meaning and pleasure. The department's beliefs grow out of current studies in the way that people learn as well as observations made in the classroom.

The department's purposes and objectives include the following:

  • to expose students to a wide variety of art making and viewing experiences;
  • to give the students the opportunity to see art as something to be enjoyed on an aesthetic level;
  • to enable students to build their skill levels and assemble a visual vocabulary;
  • to build a verbal understanding of what art is;
  • to enable students who wish to enter the art field to assemble a portfolio of their best work that would be acceptable to a college.
