Christian Service
This course will expand the issues explored in Moral Awareness. Social Justice will be extensively covered as a way of exploring the Christian call to action. This course will include a service component. Students will go on site to various institutions to see how the Church’s peace and justice stance can be personally lived.

COMPETENCY GOAL 1: Students will be able to envision a World of Justice and how their lives have an impact on creating such a world. Objectives:
- Students will come to understand what God’s idea for the world is and how it differs from our current situation.
- Students will understand the part the existence of sin plays in our world.
COMPETENCY GOAL 2: Students will develop an understanding of the importance of respecting human dignity.
Objectives:
- Students will learn the importance of respect.
- Students will realize all people deserve respect simply because they are in God’s image.
COMPETENCY GOAL 3: Students will understand and appreciate the difficulties and rewards of waging peace. Objectives:
- Students will understand different forms of conflict; sinful and inevitable.
- Students will examine the “Just War Theory”, and ask is it possible to wage a Just War today.
COMPETENCY GOAL 4: Students will see the importance of living simply.
Objectives:
- Students will look at how our society has become “possessed by our possessions”.
- Students will examine how faith and economics come into conflict.
COMPETENCY GOAL 5: Students will understand the significance of sustaining the earth. Objectives:
- Students will examine how we need to respect the earth and its creatures.
- Students will understand how the integrity of creation is of great importance to our survival.
